A myth persists that motors when rewound are inferior due to
a decrease in reliability and efficiency. I'm sure you've
heard it, "a motor losses 2% efficiency every time it's
rewound." If the work and processes are controlled, coupled
with better components, reliability and efficiency should
remain or may even be slightly improved. EASA's study "The
Effect of Repair/Rewinding on Motor Efficiency" Test
Protocol Results page 1-19 proves the point. So, why isn't
the message getting out? How can we change this
misconception?
A non-profit organization has been
established and named the Green Motors Practices Group. The organization promotes branding that
identifies service centers who are committed to produce rewinds
consistently that will retain or improve reliability and
efficiency. This promotion has begun the process of
changing these misconceptions and produce positive
perceptions of our finished products especially with
Northwest electric utilities.
